Combined scientific study data from 2008 up to today, shows zero linked HIV sexual transmissions after more than 100,000 condomless sex acts with serodifferent couples (one person is living with HIV and the other person not), where the partner living with HIV had an Undetectable Viral Load at the time. This was true of both heterosexual and same-sex male couples.
This data is part of the evidence base for the medical breakthrough referred to as “HIV treatment as prevention,” and the public health message that “Undetectable equals untransmittable,” or U=U. The evidence was further backed up with patient data across a longer period of time.
The findings made it clear an effort was needed to tackle misconceptions surrounding people living with HIV on effective treatment, within the adult film industry and between content creators. It also became clear there was a false sense of security and overlooking of HIV test "Window period" factors for people about to be filmed with. As such the Porn Professionals for Safety Against Discrimination Pledge was created.
